Pleat on Pleat: Holiday Party Lookbook

Velvet is the hottest trend of the season. You can satisfy your velvet obsession with dresses, shoes or accessories. Velvet is perfect for the holiday season because it adds a touch of elegance and glamour. This pleated velvet skirt was my very first velvet purchase. I’ve been in love with velvet ever since. I love the soft velvety feel of the fabric.

I also love wearing jewel tone pieces during the holiday to add a touch of color. This magenta hue is so beautiful. It paired beautifully with this white tunic. This look is perfect for holiday parties. A hint of sparkle is a must have so I added a statement necklace to complete the look.

I think every girl needs a good white button up top. If you’re looking for one, look no further. This top is beautiful and super versatile. It looks so chic with a pair of leggings. That’s what I’ll be wearing on Thanksgiving. For a dressed up look, pair it with a maxi skirt like I did here. I’ve also worn it to work with a pencil skirt.  For reference, I’m wearing an XSP and the fit is perfect.

Wishing you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving! We're hosting a family Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year. I'll be sharing photos on my story so be sure to follow along.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

We took Jayce to his very first visit to the pumpkin patch last weekend. I've been to the pumpkin patch many times but this visit was special. We woke up early so we can get there before it gets crowded. It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone else had the same idea in mind. We got to the pumpkin patch before 10:30 a.m. and it was already packed.

Jayce had a great time walking around and trying to pick up mini pumpkins. It was so cute to watch him explore and enjoy his first experience. We wanted to take Jayce on a hayride but didn’t end up riding it because the line was so long and he was getting fussy.

It’s our tradition to get caramel popcorn whenever we visit the pumpkin patch because they are too delicious to resist. We shared some with Jayce and he loved it.  We don’t usually let Jayce have sweets but we made it an exception this time since it was a special occasion.

These gorgeous bracelets are from Happiness Boutique. I’m so impressed with the beautiful quality of these bracelets. I have been wearing them a lot since I got them. Both bracelets I’m wearing are currently on sale. Use code “doreensstylediary" at checkout for 10% off for orders over 19 euros. This code is valid until November 23rd. 3 tips for getting your wardrobe ready for Fall

I’m partnering with J.Jill to share how I’m preparing my wardrobe for fall. Summer is still going strong in Seattle but fall will be here before we know it. The days are getting shorter and nights are cooler. There’re so many things I love about fall. My absolute favorite part is fall fashion. Here’re 3 simple steps to get your closet ready for the upcoming season.

  1. Rearrange Closet: Put away your summer clothes to make room for fall clothes. I’m still going to keep my floral pieces in dark colors because they’ll transition well into fall. I used to store my summer clothes in the garage but now that I have more closet space, I place my off season clothes on higher shelves. That way everything I need for the current season are right there in front of me (petite girl’s problem).
  2. Assess your wardrobe: I’m kind of a neat freak and hate a messy closet. At the start of every season, I go through and donate clothes I haven’t worn in a couple of years. That way my closet isn’t cluttered with clothes I don’t wear anymore. It’s so much easier to see what I have and assess what I need.
  3. Plan out new addition:  I’m a planner by nature. I have a list for pretty much everything from wardrobe planning to spring cleaning and meal planning. For this fall, cardigans are on top of my list of items to purchase. They are my favorite layering piece. What’s great about cardigans is they come in variety of styles, colors and materials to choose from. They’re easy to style. These beautiful cardigans from J.Jill are my newest addition. They’re beautiful and versatile. Both cardigans will look beautiful with leggings to jeans and dresses. What I love about J.Jill is that I can always count on high quality and great fit.  The fit is perfect for my extra petite frame. I’m wearing XSP for both pieces. I always have issue with sleeves running long on me but both pieces fit me perfectly.

The red yarn topper is an eye catcher. The color is rich and perfect for fall. It’s warm and cozy like wearing my favorite blanket. It has a nice weight to it but not heavy. The sweater has room to stretch so I can layer it over another sweater on really cold days. I paired it with a little black dress for a Sunday brunch and took it off when it got warmer in the afternoon.

The double faced black/camel cardigan is so soft. It’s a great transition piece from summer to fall. I wore this to a coffee meet up with my sister. I went for a casual look with a white top and high waisted jeans. This cardigan is perfect is layering over lightweight blouses because of its slimmer cut.

Happy 1st Birthday

Dear Jayce,

I can't believe you are officially a toddler. I will always remember the first moment I laid my eyes on your sweet face and whispered to you “Welcome home baby. We've waited so long to meet you”.  You were perfect in every way. From that moment I knew you’ll always have my unconditional love.

The first month of motherhood was an adventure learning to change diaper, figuring out how to breastfeed you and trying to function with just 3-4 hours of sleep. I remember the first time I had to change your diaper without daddy and it was on backward. I laughed so hard when I found out. The first time I had to take you to your doctor’s appointment by myself and I couldn’t open the stroller but was too embarrassed to ask for help. I ended up carrying you inside.

This first year was exhausting yet so rewarding. Before you came into our lives, there was nothing that can wake me up in the wee hours of the night. Now a little movement from you and I would jump out of my bed to run to you. I remember the first time you slept through the night, I woke up multiple times to check on you.

You've brought so much love and joy into our lives. You make everything in my life more meaningful. I never knew how much I can love until I met you.  Always know that you are also surrounded by so many people that love you. Daddy and I will always be here to guide and support you. We love you so very much, Jayce! Happy first birthday my love!

Thank you so much for visiting!

Cold-Shoulder Chambray Dress

We took these photos on our way to our very first family vacation in June. Stay tuned for those vacation photos. I’ve been wanting to visit the Point Defiance Rose Garden for some time now but didn’t want to drive an hour to get there. This trip was the perfect time to stop by since it was on the way. The rose garden is beautiful. It’s a perfect place for photos. I highly recommend visiting it. It’s located by the Point Defiance zoo so you can combine your visit to the garden with the zoo. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the zoo so we’re definitely coming back to the visit it and check out the garden again.

Summer is in full swing in Seattle. It hasn’t rained for over 51 days now, crazy right? We broke the record. I’m definitely not complaining about it. This beautiful summer weather is perfect for wearing dresses. Dresses are my favorite fashion staple. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to style them. Plus they give you the instant feminine look. This cold-shoulder chambray dress is so sweet and adorable. I love the beautiful silhouette of this dress. The ruffle overlay is just so pretty. The tiered skirt with ruffled hem gives it a feminine feel to this dress. I’m wearing an extra small in petite. It’s currently on sale for under $27.00. This chambray version is sold out but you can get it in floral prints and black.

How gorgeous are these peonies in my bag? They’re from my garden. They were in full bloomed when we left for our vacation. It was a hot weekend so by the time we returned they were pretty much done. I wish the peony season lasts all summer long.

Thank you so much for visiting!
